The Basics of Pallet Design and Performance, April 11th, 2024

The course will cover the basic concepts for the proper design of wooden pallets. Using The Pallet Design System (PDS), one of the most commonly used software in the pallet industry, attendees will learn how to design a pallet and optimize its structure to reach their goals. The course will cover how different material and fastener choices will impact pallet performance and how different load support conditions impact how much load a pallet can carry as well as how pallets, packaging and material handling equipment interact in the supply chain.

Dr. Eduardo Molina, PhD

Dr. Eduardo Molina is an Assistant Professor in the Packaging Systems and Design program at Virginia Tech. He teaches classes in the area of operations management and its relationship to packaging, as well as Computer-aided Packaging Design. 

He established and manages the only IKEA-certified corrugated fiberboard testing laboratory in North America, as part of the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design. In this laboratory, students obtain experience to evaluate and certify performance properties of corrugated fiberboard for manufacturers and users of corrugated board.

This course is being held in-person April 11th, 2024, as part of the Expo Richmond. It will consist of a 4 hour lecture.
