Distribution Packaging Lab Intern

Description

Research at CPULD focuses on the development of systems-based technologies to optimize the relationship between the design and performance of pallets, packaging, and unit loads and to maximize the efficiency of the whole material handling system.

This position will provide great opportunities for students interested in packaging engineering, unit load design, process optimization, and global physical distribution to get hands-on experience through industrial projects and undergraduate research.

Students interact with the decision makers from local-to-international companies. Experience gained through this internship will be invaluable to the students’ resume and future job application processes. CPULD is self-funded through commercial contracts with companies from around the world.

Ultimately the success of the lab is dependent on our student workers. Successful intern candidates will demonstrate a strong desire to contribute to the mission of the lab as manifested in a sound work ethic, being on time, and paying attention to the details of all tests and lab safety protocols.

Forklift Driver, Part-Time

The Center regularly looks for part-time, student workers to conduct durability simulations using an industrial forklift. The position requires following a predefined set of handling steps using a forklift, and the ability to take photographs and enter and upload data on an iPad. These simulations often will require work in an unconditioned space and/or conducting tests outside.

There are generally positions open at the start of each semester, and the position could last as long as the students hired wish to work throughout their time at VT.

We will provide all necessary training and the pay rate is $15.00 per hour.
